Questions
Does it work for a cat as well as a dog?
Yes — same device, same subscription. The silicone mount goes onto the collar your pet already wears, up to 28 mm wide, a cat’s as readily as a big dog’s.
Do I need a subscription?
Yes, and the first three months come with the collar. It transmits over the cellular network, so it needs a SIM card and data: that’s what the subscription pays for, along with the server that keeps the history. Your 90 days start the day you pair the collar, not the day you order. After that, $6.99 a month is charged to the card you used — we tell you a week ahead, and you can stop it in one tap from the app.
What happens when they leave the zone?
Your phone rings. You set the zone in the app by drawing a circle around your home; the moment the device leaves it, the alert goes out.
Does it work everywhere in Canada?
Anywhere a phone has signal, which is to say just about anywhere you’ll go with your pet. Outdoors under open sky the position comes from GPS and lands within two or three metres. Under a roof or out on a back road, the collar falls back to the WiFi around it — within about sixty metres — then to the cell towers, which give the area without giving the house. You always see where a position came from and what it’s worth: we never pass an approximation off as a certainty.
How long does the battery last?
Five days on close tracking. That’s one full cycle, measured: a position every three minutes for five days straight, which no animal actually needs. In everyday use the collar reports far less often and lasts far longer; we’ll publish that figure once a full cycle has produced it, not before. The device comes off in one motion and charges on its base.
Does the collar survive rain and snow?
Yes: the device is IP68-rated. Rain, snow, slush and a puddle do nothing to it. It isn’t a diving device for all that — don’t send it swimming for an hour.
Can I stop my subscription?
Yes, whenever you like. The subscription renews on its own at the end of the term — that’s what keeps the collar from going quiet without warning — and you can stop that renewal in one gesture, from the app or from here. The days you’ve already paid for stay yours: nothing is clawed back, there’s no penalty and no call to make. And if your pet goes to a sitter, you can pause the subscription instead: the clock stops, your days wait for you, and the collar stays quiet for the duration.
What happens if Filou shuts down?
It’s the right question, and it just happened to thousands of people: Whistle switched off every one of its devices on 31 August 2025, after being bought, with no way to migrate. The Filou collar isn’t locked to our service — it’s an off-the-shelf device whose server address can be changed, and your history exports from the app whenever you want. If Filou disappeared, you’d be left with a collar you can repoint and your data, rather than a paperweight.
Do I need a separate cellular plan?
No. The SIM card is already in the collar and the data plan is included in the subscription. There’s nothing to open with a carrier.
Can I track two pets?
Yes. One collar and one subscription per pet, and both show up in the same app, on the same map.
Is it comfortable to wear all the time?
The device sits flat against the collar: nothing dangles, nothing catches. It weighs 45 g, about the weight of an AA battery. For a cat or a small dog, try it for a day before leaving it on full time.
